HackerRank alternative for French and English hiring: Hirlya
Updated 27 October 2026 · 5 min read
Short answer
HackerRank is a broad technical hiring platform: AI-assisted coding assessments in 55+ programming languages, pair-programming interviews and an AI interviewer, with public prices from $79 a month billed annually. Its candidate interface is offered in English or Canadian French. Hirlya is narrower: one screening campaign per role with a technical quiz, a written case study followed by three AI questions on the candidate's answer, a coding exercise in JavaScript or Python and an interview slot the candidate books, in French or English. Choose HackerRank for many languages and a large question library; consider Hirlya for French-speaking candidates and roles where written reasoning matters.

When Hirlya is the better choice
- Your candidates are in France, Morocco or other French-speaking markets and should read the whole journey in French, not Canadian French with untranslated custom text.
- You want to assess reasoning as well as code: a written case study followed by questions on the candidate's own answer.
- You prefer no webcam and no screen recording, and a recruiter who decides after an AI pre-assessment that gives its reasons.
- Your technical roles need JavaScript or Python in the coding exercise, not a long list of languages.

Can candidates take HackerRank tests in French?
HackerRank's help centre says tests can be sent in English or Canadian French, which sets the language of emails, login screen and test environment. Custom text written by the recruiter is not translated.
Does Hirlya record candidates?
No. Neither the screen nor the camera is recorded. Large pastes in the code editor are reported to the recruiter, and the candidate is told before starting.
Who makes the hiring decision in Hirlya?
