CoderPad Screen (CodinGame) alternative: Hirlya compared
Updated 27 October 2026 · 5 min read
Short answer
CoderPad Screen, formerly CodinGame, is built around code: more than 4,000 validated questions across 70+ skills, gamified exercises, multi-file projects and live coding interviews, with public prices from $80 a month on an annual plan. Hirlya is built around the whole screening campaign: technical quiz, written case study followed by three AI questions on the candidate's own answer, coding exercise in JavaScript or Python, then an interview slot the candidate books. Choose CoderPad when code is your main signal and you need many languages; consider Hirlya when you also want to assess reasoning beyond code, in French or English.
CodinGame is now CoderPad Screen
CodinGame's recruiting site (codingame.com/work) now redirects to coderpad.io, and CoderPad's privacy policy names its French entity "CoderPad France (formerly known as CodinGame SA)", based in Montpellier. The CodinGame assessment product is sold as CoderPad Screen, next to CoderPad Qualify (pre-screening) and CoderPad Interview (live collaborative coding).

When CoderPad is the better choice
- Code is the main thing you assess, across many languages and stacks.
- You want live pair-programming interviews in the same tool.
- You want to start alone, today, with public prices and a free trial.
- You want a large ready-made question bank.
When Hirlya is the better choice
- You hire for roles where reasoning matters as much as code: architecture choices, priorities, explaining trade-offs in a written case study.
- You want one campaign per role that chains quiz, case study, follow-up questions, code and the interview booking, with a pipeline view for recruiters.
- You prefer no webcam and no screen recording, and a recruiter who decides after an AI pre-assessment that gives its reasons.
- Your candidates take the journey in French or English, without creating an account.
What both do
Both ask AI-generated follow-up questions after the candidate's answer: CoderPad on a piece of code, Hirlya on the written case study or code review. Both report pasted code. Neither should be read as proof that a candidate did not use an AI assistant: these are signals for the interview. See coding assessments in the age of AI.
Questions
Is CodinGame still available for recruiters?
CodinGame's recruiting pages redirect to coderpad.io. The assessment product is now sold as CoderPad Screen.
Which coding languages does Hirlya support?
JavaScript and Python. If you need other languages in the coding exercise, a multi-language tool such as CoderPad fits better.
Does Hirlya detect ChatGPT use?
No tool can prove it. Hirlya reports large pastes in the code editor and asks three questions about the candidate's own written answer, so the recruiter can check understanding in the interview.
